Among All Indian flatbreads, the one making everyone smile. I am talking about Garlic Butter Naan. It is very soft, fluppy and has melted butter applied on it along with finely chopped garlic and coriander leaves. Naan has become everyone's favourite today , no matter where you are in India, you cannot live far from it, from roadside dhabas to five-star hotels and even your beloved home.

Garlic Butter Naan

Totally different from plain naan, garlic naan is at a different level, butter and garlic add charm to it. Garlic topping gives it a savoury punch which makes it complementary with spice curry and creamy curry. Traditionally naan is cooked in a tandoor which gives the naan a smoky flavour and charred edges, but generally we don't have a tandoor at home and an iron pan is where it shows its magic. And today we will learn to make Naan on an iron pan only and believe me it turns out amazing and gives the same restaurant like taste and experience.

So let's now take a look at the ingredients and the recipe

             Ingredients

250 gm  All purpose flour

∆ 1/4 cup Curd/ yogurt- it adds tanginess to the naan and for fermentation.(Optional)

∆ Baking soda - a pinch of

∆ 1 tablespoon sugar (crushed)

∆ Salt - a pinch

∆ 1 tablespoon oil - for applying on the gutted flour so that the dough does not dry

∆ 3 tablespoon melted butter

∆ 10-15 garlic cloves (finely chopped)

∆ Few coriander leaves (chopped)

∆ 1/2 Warm milk - for kneading the dough, the warm liquid makes the flour ferment quickly and makes it softer than milk and enhances the taste.

∆ Water in a bowl

 Step by step Instructions

Step 1 preparing the dough
Take flour in a utensil . Add salt, crushed sugar, baking soda and mix well. Now add milk little by little and knead the flour. Initially the flour will stick to your hand but after some time the dough will start taking its shape and will also start coming away from your hand. Make sure that the dough is soft, not hard. Apply oil on the kneaded dough and cover it with a muslin cloth and leave it for half an hour.

Step 2: Shaping the naan
Now divide the dough into small balls. Take one ball and start rolling it. Don't worry if it doesn't take the shape you want, it will still look beautiful even with uneven edges. After rolling, place some chopped garlic and coriander leaves on it and roll it once again gently. The garlic and coriander will set nicely on the roll.

Step 3 : cooking on tava
Let the pan heat up on high flame, take water in a bowl and spread some water on the back side of the naan which does not have garlic or coriander, stick it on the hot pan. Now keep the flame on medium and cook the naan for 2-3 minutes. When the naan starts to puff up, turn the pan upside down, increase the flame and rotate the naan on the flame and cook the edges too. This will give a smoky flavour to the naan. Now after heating the pan, separate the naan from the pan with the help of a knife. The naan will release its heat on its own after cooking.

Step 4 : The final touch
Now place the naan on a plate and apply melted butter on it. You will feel a wonderful aroma from the butter and it will spread throughout the food and the house.

A sweet little story

Naan is not just a bread but also an emotion and a small celebration. I fell in love with Naan from the first time I ate Naan in a restaurant. I did not know that Naan was going to become a comfort dish for me. I was so addicted to eating Naan that I used to eat Naan everyday. One day  my parents scolded me a lot and stopped me from going to restaurants and ordering food online. After a few days I told my mother that if I cannot order Naan from the restaurant then why don't I make Naan at home. Hearing my words my mother started laughing and said go ahead and make it. She was wondering how a small child could make naan. I first saw the recipe of naan and then started making naan. After some time the aroma of roasted melted butter starts spreading in the house then my mother comes in the kitchen and says my son what are you doing, what is it smelling so lovely? I showed the naan to my mother and she was shocked and then she was very happy. Then my mother tasted the naan and praised me a lot. The naan was really very tasty. I also fed naan to the rest of the family members, and everyone praised me a lot. Everyone looked very happy, and that moment was the best moment of my life, which I can never forget.
